Efkharisto! Wow, what an evening! Walking through the doors of the student center, George and I forgot we were in Stayton. Beneath a backdrop of blue sky, a bluer sea and a mountainside “village” perched high on a cliff, guests were sampling traditional Greek appetizers, taking a chance on the prize bottle at the Wall of Wine and browsing through hundreds of auction items up for bid. We could hear plates breaking and people yelling “OPA!” Bidding was brisk and when all was said and done, over $243,000 was raised for Regis. Joe and Karen Lulay won the Blitz and Regis sophomore Kasse Keudell won the car raffle, a new Mazda 3i Sport. George and I spent a year of our lives planning for the event and were continually amazed by both the generosity of donors, and the volunteers who worked many long hours to bring auction night to life. We were told from the beginning that the auction was a “machine”. We now know that this machine runs on the fuel of school staff, parents, past parents, future parents, community and student volunteers, and families and businesses who donate their services, time and money to help make it possible for Regis to provide a quality Catholic education for our children. We wish to thank the dedicated auction and committee chairs, the countless volunteers and donors, Power Auto group for their continued generosity, and all those who, in spite of the current economic climate, raised their paddles high for Catholic education. |
